Jacksons Lodge 64 Years in Business

I would rate Jackson’s Lodge TEN STARS if there were such a rating.

Ray Gagnon, Boxborough, Massachusetts

For the last three or so years now, I have had the pleasure of staying at Jackson’s Lodge as a staff volunteer supporting the VT Trout Camp for Teens, sponsored by Vermont Trout Unlimited, an organization of fly-fishers, dedicated to conserving and protecting cold-water streams and fostering conservation among young people.  It is worth noting, that this Camp brings perhaps as many as 12 to 15 young teens, plus as many adult counsellors to Jackson’s every year, and it is no exaggeration to say that the Lodge not only accommodates us but facilitates every aspect of this program – lodging, meals, activities, etc., etc., — as well as any venue possibly could.  First of all, the natural location is lovely.  The facilities are clean, spacious and charming.  The food is excellent, without exception, and Jackson’s goes out of their way to an impressive degree to feed us all sit-down meals and lunches according to an exacting and often fluctuating schedule.  They are simply always on top of it.

But, of course, all of the above are the so-called “tangibles” that one would hope to expect from any good lodging venue.  In all these areas, Jackson’s is impressive to say the least.  But what really sets Jackson’s apart is the “intangible” way that Gloria, Mark and the staff create not just an effective and efficient operation but a warm and welcoming atmosphere as well.  I travel a good deal both for business and pleasure, and it frequently surprises me how often people in the hospitality business may supply very satisfactory “tangibles,” but absolutely fail in simply being, well, hospitable!  To a degree that’s surprising, even though the livelihood of hospitality folks depends on your being there, they all too often don’t succeed in doing what one would think would be the easiest part of their job, namely, letting you know they’re glad you’re there!  This, above all, is what makes Jackson’s such a special place, the fact that at any time on any given day, you’ll meet Gloria or Mark or anyone, and their warm and friendly manner, more than anything else they do, will let you know in the most authentic way, that they’re glad you’re there.  I have even heard Mark, on more than one occasion, explicitly tell the leaders of our group how happy he and Gloria are to be hosting Trout Camp, while he assures us that we should not hesitate to ask if there’s anything special we need.  Now that’s hospitality!

We bring a lot of people and a lot of demands to Jackson’s every year, and I have a feeling that our program would seriously tax any ordinary venue.  But Jackson’s is hardly ordinary.  They “get it” both on the execution side and the hospitality side.  But don’t take my word for it; find out for yourself.  If you like the beautiful outdoors, charming accommodations, great food and fine people, you owe it to yourself to visit Jackson’s Lodge!
